So I’m getting back from traveling, which always wreaks havoc on my skincare routine and what do I get home to? Well, this beautiful gift from Derma-E including all of their entire Vitamin C skincare line.

So I proceed to try them out and I have to say, they are living up to the hype.

But, let’s first start out by discussing why Vitamin C is literally a superhero to your skin.

Vitamin C is one of the most important skincare elements to help prevent aging. And let’s be honest, we are all doing massive skincare regimens to avoid aging.

As much as I’d like to say it’s just good self-care and it makes me feel better (which both are true)- the real reason, is to embrace the youth zeitgeist for as long as I possibly can and stave off looking like anyone’s actual mother. Which, I am, and am proud to be. But, don’t actually want to look that age. Or, be that age for that matter.

So why is vitamin C so good for your skin?

  1. Vitamin C, aka ascorbic acid, is integral to producing collagen. And I probably don’t have to tell you that collagen is the literal lifeblood to youthful-looking skin.  Vitamin C helps promote and increase the growth of cells and blood vessels that allow your skin to appear firm, smooth, and wrinkle-free.
  2. Vitamin  C also slows down the external and internal sources that damage your collagen. When your collagen becomes damaged your skin will look dry and more wrinkly. Both things we want to avoid.

So it not only helps produce collagen, it helps prevents things from breaking down your collagen. To me, this sounds like a superpower.

Vitamin C is basically the protector and defender of collagen. So yes, you need it in your skincare routine.

Vitamin C also helps even out your skin tone, and it can be helpful in protecting your skin against UV rays.

Now, I’m not hating on aging. In fact, with age, I’ve learned more about myself,  my values, and my desires.  But, I am absolutely hating on looking old.

Fresh-faced skin is one of the best ways to look beautiful, and feel confident.  So my suggestion, one I’m heartfully embracing myself, is to limit the makeup I wear and increase my efforts on caring for my skin in a better manner.

Sure, makeup can make us all look dewy and flawless, but come nighttime when you wash it all off, it feels pretty shitty to not like what is underneath.

Instead, less makeup, more protecting and preventing. It will make your days easier, and honestly, it’s a great confidence boost to be able to go anywhere, at any time without having to cover up your blemishes or worry about your makeup.

So what are your options for vitamin C… Well you can certainly eat oranges all day, every day, and load up on vitamin C gummies… But, a simpler and more effective method (and probably healthier method than eating solely oranges all day every day) would be to invest in skincare products that have a vitamin C focus.

I was sent these products, but I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn’t feel they were products I would purchase with my own money, or if I didn’t see results from using them.

Here’s what is included in the Vitamin C Line:

One of my favorite products is the Micellar Water, which I’ve recently been obsessed with anyway. Micellar water is a great product to “pre-cleanse” your skin. It helps remove skin cells, makeup, and dirt before you actually wash your face. It is more gentle than witch hazel and more effective than just using soap first.  I find it the perfect addition to my nighttime skincare routine, and it’s great for sensitive skin.

So add vitamin C, to one of my go-to products… You get two thumbs up from me.

The other product I loved was the night time cream. It smelled great, it was not greasy, and it really moisturized without leaving a residue. I also noticed my pores seemed smaller, so yay for that.

Also, a key technique for applying moisturizers and serums.  Pat the cream/serum on. Do not rub or wipe your skin with it.  You want to gently “pat” the cream all over your face and neck. It will absorb more evenly and more effectively this way.  It feels weird to gently hit your face all over, but, hey we do a lot of crazy things for beauty. Just, try it.

And lastly, the facial peel. This is a once per week item.  It is gentle so it doesn’t strip your skin of it’s natural oxidants and glow, but effective so that it helps resurface and smooth skin’s texture. It also helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles- so thank you vitamin C peels!

Also, it should be mentioned the world is on a big kick about clean beauty (which is great!). And I can honestly say my entire beauty routine is not “clean”. But I’m working on it, and it is a goal of mine to complete.  Derma-e is GMO-free, cruelty-free, 100% vegan, gluten and soy-free, and recyclable.  For more on their commitment to clean beauty and their initiatives to the environment, click here.   DERMA E  is dermatologist recommended, proven and effective – “Proven Clean Beauty” are the words they live by.

So, while beauty is not skin deep, it never hurts to have gorgeous, youthful skin.  And I can confidently say, vitamin C is a huge part of that equation.  So if you’re looking for something to brighten your skin, and protect your collagen- Derma- E has some of my favorite new vitamin c products.
