Cozy Loungewear that you’ll want to live in + how to nest at home

Cozy Loungewear that you’ll want to live in + how to nest at home

During times of chaos, we seek comfort.  We seek security.  And there is a reason we envision our homes a place of nesting with Hygge style sheepskin throws, cozy loungewear and a fire blazing in the background. Maybe a book at your side.

But the reality for most of us, especially during this stay in place order is grimy sweats we have worn three days in a row, and Netflix on play in the background 24/7.

So how do we avoid this depressing funk when the most excitement we get is discussing if Carole Baskin killed her husband (she did) and walking from the couch to the kitchen?

Well, it’s about investing a little bit of effort to make you feel safe, comfortable, and have a slight semblance of normal.

Effort = investment.  If we are not invested in something, we don’t try, it’s as simple as that.  If you don’t like someone, you don’t text them or try to get to know them.  If you hate your job you don’t try to expand your knowledge or increase your skill.

But, this is your life and it’s important to put some investment into it.

So why loungewear instead of ______?

What you wear and what you surround yourself with are key components, not only to your mindset but to your sense of self.

If I had a nickel every time I said fashion matters, whether you are at home or out on the town… Well, I’d have a lot of nickels.

So even if you are nesting at home, alone or with your significant other, it is important to take pride in your appearance.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not encouraging you to try to learn to contour and wear a ballgown to your couch. However, I am encouraging you to take off your pajamas and get into something fresh for the day. And cozy loungewear is a great option.

Loungewear is chic and comfortable so it is perfect for those days spent inside snuggled on the couch with Netflix ( i mean a good book)….

Here are my picks for the best cozy loungewear:

Co-ordinated Loungewear Sets

Co-ordinated loungewear is the easiest loungewear because it instantly looks chic and put together.

Athletic Loungewear

Sporty loungewear is great when you have errands to run, housekeeping to do, or just need a bit more structure to your outfit while still remaining comfortable.

Cashmere Loungewear

Why is cashmere so expensive?

Cashmere is made from goats, specifically the Kashmir goat.  And it is not simply just goat hair. In fact, it is the fleece of goats.  And it is usually from goats in very cold, dry climates which encourage a thicker, more supple fleece (underlayer).

The actual amount of cashmere that you can get from a goat is not a high yield, therefore making the process a bit more laborious and therefore more expensive on the buyer end.

The finer the cashmere ( taken from the neck or the underbelly of the goat) the more expensive the piece.

You want to look for 2 ply cashmere and you want a bit of stretch but for it to generally spring back to its silhouette.

If you invest in cashmere you should be able to keep it for years.

How do I care for my cashmere loungewear?

  • Hand washing is not necessarily better. Too much water can get left on the garment and can destroy the fibers.
  • Always clean with a gentle cycle (machine wash) and cashmere shampoo.  Like this one:

  • Try using a netted washing bag to protect the fibers from being overspun.

  • Do not squeeze your garments dry- lay flat to dry.
  • AVOID hangers that can stretch the cashmere out.
  • BEWARE of moths. They will destroy your cashmere and wool pieces. Use cedar balls like this to prevent moths and consider storing your cashmere in airtight containers when they are not in use.
  • If you have a stain that won’t come out in the gentle cycle, take it to a professional.
  • If your cashmere is piling then use a cashmere comb like this one:

Bonus: How to craft a home you can nest in that represents you

Your home, just like your outfit should be a representation of you.  If you met someone (or let them into your home) and you were not allowed to say a single word to them, what would your clothes or house say about you? Would it tell an accurate story?

Visuals help jumpstart your story and your message. They can also be the loop to connecting different parts of you.

For instance, if you answered the door in your grimy sweatpants with a coffee spill on your shirt and a messy bun that does not epitomize effortless chic but rather reeks of bedhead, you’re actually communicating that you do not care.

And I don’t want to sound like an alarmist, but life is passing you by.  And i understand that not every day can be a glamorous runway show, but you should always dress for the day you want.

That means if you want a cozy and relaxing day, dress up in cozy, chic loungewear.

Just the act of taking off your pajamas and embracing a new day triggers your brain to “get up”.

That being said if you are spending a cozy day at home. you should also invest in your home. Your home should be your refuge.  A place your find safe, comforting, and above all else – yours.

Here are a few things I love to have in my home that makes me feel like it is my space:

Books:

Books are an accumulation of the knowledge I’ve gained and seek to gain.  What could be better than a visual explanation of my interests and desires?  Here are some books I’ve been loving lately.

Candles/Scent

Scent is such a powerful tool.  In case you don’t know, a sense of smell is most closely linked to memories and the triggering of memories (source).  This is my favorite candle (and the budget option I have as well). Lavender is great for relaxation and calming, so its the perfect candle to nest at home with. [ the best expensive candle dupes including Diptyque and Le Labo]

This is my favorite perfume currently. (which I like to use to trigger a calming feeling in my house). The scent called Gypsy Water and it is described as ” a glamorization of the Romani, or Gypsy, lifestyle. The scent of fresh soil, deep forests and campfires evoke the dream of a free, colorful lifestyle close to nature.”  Although it still somehow manages to smell very feminine.

Blankets:

Am I the only one who has a designated throw on my couch that I use every time I sit down? Even if it’s 100 degrees outside? Well, you should try it:

Mindset is important to feel safe and positive.  And if you’re struggling with that, you should check out this post on a positive mindset.

On average I’m going to say you spend a lot of your life in clothes.  So whether you are at home, cozying up with someone you love or going out on the town it is so crucially important that you value what you are putting on your body.

So as much as you want to stay in your pajamas on a Saturday morning, you should get up, get dressed, and make a commitment to being the best you.

And, I shouldn’t have to mention this, but if you are in a relationship, getting dressed and trying is also a benefit to them.  They, I have no doubt, love you whether you have showered, brushed your teeth, or even washed your hair… But, by simply putting on comfy loungewear, you will feel better about yourself and they will undoubtedly appreciate your positive impression and effort.

So, while you are home- make the conscious effort to invest in yourself.  I find cozy loungewear the perfect answer to this.

And if you’re stuck working from home and going crazy, I have some tips for you here.
